Frequently asked questions - useful information for professionals
As an employee, you can easily switch from another statutory health insurance provider to Audi BKK - after just twelve months with the other health insurance provider. You don't even have to cancel your old health insurance in person. All you need to do is inform us that you want to switch. We will do the rest for you. We will inform your previous health insurance fund of your departure via an electronic notification procedure and ensure a seamless transition as your new health insurance provider. You are therefore insured throughout. Good to know: There is also an immediate right to choose a health insurance company, which means that eligible persons may switch to a new health insurance company without giving notice and regardless of the length of membership with their previous health insurance company.
Incidentally, no notice of termination is required if membership ends by law.
If you take up employment - whether you are just starting your career or changing employers - you are subject to compulsory insurance. This means that a percentage of your salary is paid into health, long-term care, pension and unemployment insurance. All provisions on statutory health insurance are set out in the Fifth Book of the German Social Code (SGB V for short). As a rule, you are free to choose your health insurance company. You can therefore choose Audi BKK as your new health insurance provider. If, as a career starter, you had family insurance with a statutory health insurance fund before your first job, this membership ends automatically.
Good to know: If your regular annual salary exceeds the general compulsory insurance limit of 69,300 euros (calendar year 2024), you are exempt from insurance as an employee. You can then take out voluntary insurance with Audi BKK if certain requirements are met.
Your contribution depends primarily on your income and, of course, our contribution rates. The Fifth Book of the German Social Code (Sozialgesetzbuch Fünftes Buch, SGB V for short) stipulates that employers and employees share the contributions. The percentage contribution that you pay into the insurance from your gross salary is therefore half.
Your contribution rate to statutory health insurance (GKV) is generally 14.6 %. There is also an additional contribution of 1.0 % (2024), which your Audi BKK levies to ensure efficient care. Your employer pays half of the contribution. For you, this means that regardless of whether you are just starting your career or have been working for some time: You always pay half, i.e. a total of 7.3 % of your gross salary to your Audi BKK. If you are not entitled to sickness benefit, you pay the reduced contribution rate of 14.0 %. In this case, too, the employer pays half of the contribution to the health insurance.
Would you like to determine your personal contribution advantage with Audi BKK? Then go to our benefit calculator: Simply enter your current health insurance company and your salary and see your personal benefit.
Do you receive a salary of 520.01 euros to 1,600 euros? Then your contribution rate for health insurance is calculated according to a special procedure (transitional area). Your advantage: you pay less into health insurance, in these cases only a reduced contribution rate.
As a mini-jobber, you are in marginal employment or are only employed on a short-term basis. This means that you have regular income of up to 520 euros per month over the year. Or you are employed on a short-term basis for up to three months or 70 working days. In both cases, you are exempt from insurance.
Further information on marginal and short-term employment can be obtained from the Minijob-Zentrale or under special employment relationships.
The statutory contribution to long-term care insurance will be 3.4 % from July 1, 2023. Your employer will pay half of this contribution (exception in the federal state of Saxony). For childless members, a contribution surcharge of 0.6% will apply from the age of 23. As an employee, you pay this alone.
The contribution rate for pension insurance is 18.6 % and 2.4 % for unemployment insurance. Here too, the contributions are shared equally between the employer and the employee.
